This one was taken 10/14/09 northwest of Cody by friend in the pic.

He was guided by this very close friend, shown with one of mine from a couple of years ago.

Rough score was 352".

Wow - thats a great looking bull - congrats to hunter and guide. That country looks more like antelope than elk, would be a fun hunt!!

Nice bulls! I agree, doesn't look like typical elk country, but I'd be happy to have my picture with a bull like those w/o aspens in the background.

High mountain desert up by Cody. Congrats to your friend! I saw a nice bull last Saturday but it was getting dark fast and snowing like the dickens! Have to work this weekend but elk watch out next weekend! grin

Wow, how common are drop tines on elk. Don't think I've ever seen that before.

Beau-T-Full! How are you putting the stalk on those critters in open county like that? My guess is keeping a ridge between you and them, then coming up over on top of them. What was the yardage you took them down at and caliber of guns involve?

Don't have details on the elk three days ago but mine was taken at 160 yards, 338 Win Mag, 225g Partition, on shot, bang, flop. Most of those elk are usually taken at much longer range, spot and stalk.

This was was taken the year after the one shown above, one shot with a 338 Jamison, 225g Nosler Ballistic Tip, @ 340 yards, one shot, bang, flop, after about a 1000 yard stalk. He fell about 1200 yards from the first one, same area. He was 350" rough score. The one above was 401 4/8" official.

I have to credit the hunting and spotting ability of my partner who guided all three of these, plus quite a few others, all mostly over 350's.

Wow bob,you mean to tell me all it takes is a Governors tag and some public land that the public has no access to.

No Governor's tags in any of these, and all public land to which everyone has access.

Knowledge of the area, or a great guide like my friend, and it's possible for everyone. If you have the time to scout, or access to a local who has a high knowledge of game patterns and the enthusiasm to spend time doing the scouting, anyone can do it.

I agree bob,a guide with access to landlocked public lands is a diamond for sure.

This "Scouting and Enthusiasm",is that still selling for $5500 and above?

Very nice Bob. Yes, they can be found on public land. Have seen a really nice one or two myself in Montana.
Like you said, you need to know the animals and the country.
BTW, Bob is the most successful throphy elk hunter I know. E

Pretty sure he was using a 300 Win Mag, 180g bullet. Tutored him for reloading for extreme accuracy a couple of years ago for that cartridge when he decided to go trophy hunting.

WRONG! Memory not so good. That's a 7 Rem Mag using Berger bullets. Shot was about 300 yards, two shots, first a bit back, second where it should be. Taken about 20 yards from the truck!
