I just found out that I'm going to be in Knoxville early next month for a couple weeks. I'll be basically booked during the days, but evenings and especially a weekend will be free. I'll have my truck with me, so will have mobility.
While I've passed through and spent a night, etc, I've never had "time" there.
So, what to do? Any good fishing left this late? Fall leaves gone by then? Any good shooting ranges (especially sporting clays)? Any good gunshops (or pawnshops)? Any must-do local places to eat (casual, without being a chain)? If it matters, I'll be near the airport.
Let's hear from the local guys, and your recommendations! Thanks!

There's a Bass Pro Shops to the East near the Gatlinburg exit. A Gander Mountain on the west side if you like those sorta places. Used to be a good gunstore between I-40 and Gatlinburg near Pigeon Forge but not sure if the BPS killed it. There is a good gun store in down town Lenoir City which is west side of town. I have heard there is a decent one in Knoxville but can't think of the name off hand.
Leaves should still be turning early next month, and Gatlinburg will be a zoo because of it. There's a couple strip clubs on the west side off I-40 and on the way to Alcoa near the airport, just in case you want some eye candy.
For restaurants, Calhouns down on the river is a chain sorta but you can get decent food there and it's a nice atmosphere on the river. My wife would know a bunch more when she gets home, if you are looking for a good steak house etc.

Go to Coal Creek Armory and rent sub-guns. www.coalcreekarmory.comUsually good stuff at Cherokee Military Surplus of 5014 N Broadway St Ste 4, Knoxville, TN. Phone: 865-688-1830 Only local place I have really tried, but it was good. Louis' Restaurant 4661 Old Broadway Knoxville, TN 37918 (865) 687-9921 There used to be a combination parkerizing shop/florist place on down Broadway called Hawkeye's, but I can't recall the name of the florist half of the business that you would see out front.

Well, that's what the gals at UT called me. Sorry for the brag! What else would they call the guy trying to get all the football players before they could? Thus began the method of picking football games via the watching of men's asses, and Bob's life went downhill from there..........

There's a Bass Pro Shops to the East near the Gatlinburg exit. That's in Kodak, TN off of I-40. If he gets that far east of Knoxville he might as well go on down to Smokey Mountain Knife Works which would be a right turn out of BPS and a few miles drive down the road. Seems like there was a Coleman outlet just across the street the last time I was at SMKW too.

Don't know if you're interested in caves, but an hour south of there, down I-75 in Sweetwater, TN is "The Lost Sea". I've been to it 2 or 3 times. This cave is a little different in that the tour culminates in a boat ride on "The World's Largest Underground Lake" (4 acres). It is stocked with some pretty good sized trout too- no fishing though.
