It works in Central 120 miles north of Fairbanks and 60 miles South of King Salmon in the SW part of the state

It's worked up here now for the four years I've had it. I understand the only reason they don't advertise it here is that they are not licensed by the FCC - or whatever "authority" that governs such things - to operate above the 48th parallel.

I can't personally address your question but a friend of mine just bought a new pickem-up truck. He told me it had Serious (or however it's spelled) radio in it. After asking him how it worked, he said just fine. This is of course in the Fbks. area. Bear in Fairbanks

My Ford Escape came with Sirius. It would only work when I was driving in a southerly direction in the afternoon/evening. Other than that I didn't pick up anything. When the free trial period expired I didn't bother to sign up.
The question isn't who is going to let me; it's who is going to stop me.

Thanks everyone............sounds like the Serious is workable through a good chunk of the highwayed part of the state. I assume that XM doesn't work well at all as I believe they operate with one less satelite. I can't imagine driving the Alaska Highway in the Canadaian portion without my radio. Seems like the highway is only half as long these days. Use to drive only at night so I could tune in some distant AM channel.

I'm gonna have to look into it again. On those longer trips, listening to the same CD's get old and I would sleep but the wife keeps waking me up by her screaming.
Is there a place in anchorage to sign up for it?

I've had the XM at our lodge south of King Salmon as well as at out cabin at Circle Hot Springs for five years and the only problem I have had is that the antenna does need to be facing south and at times the channels higher than 60 do not come in.
I only tried it in our truck once in Central and unless I was driving with the antenna facing south it did not work. I haven't tried it while driving in other parts of the state.
