What should I use as a start pressure when loading Fed 215 m primers. The default is around 3680 psi +/-. I have been entering 4200 psi. Am I close ?

First off...I never noticed this section of the forum. 2nd I never noticed that you could play with that number. I've got version 3.2 and the default was set at 5076. Not sure if there are later versions or if the number is significant or not. I think I did a data update last year that got me the new powders like re17 but didn't change the version number.

My (somewhat limited) understanding is that the start pressure depends on several variables, primer type only being one of them. Bullet construction and bullet jump being two of the others.

I use Winchester primers and have had good luck staying with the default value.

I have varied the start pressure and noticed it has a strong effect on estimated peak pressure.

Too bad the program developer doesnt visit once in a while to give us some insight.

I use 2 thousand something for start pressures if off the lands.
I use to 5 thousand something for start pressures if jammed into the lands.

What ever it takes to get the QL predicted velocity to match the chrono results.

Sometimes the powder is not acting like canister powder, like the 8 pounds of H4350 I have right now is slow. Then I finagle the entered charge down ~ 4%.
