I thought I would use a Savage 110 as the 7mm donor and re-barrel to 350 Rem. This would give me a longer magazine and allow loading out with 250grn bullets for possibly 2600fps. It would also allow loading long bullets from Nosler and Barnes in 225 and 250grn. The bolt is the same size so it might be a cheap conversion with benefits. Any thoughts?

If you're going to have a long action you ought to just get a 35 Whelen to start with.

Just make it a 358 Norma and be happy.

I've got a 350 RM on a Remmy LA [pics in other threads]and it lets me load out to a 3.15 oal with Speer 250's at 2650ish.

Not a bad combo but if you have access to 358 Norma stuff you might want to look there.

35 Whelen [or Brown-Whelen] would probably be the easiest..neck up '06 brass and go.

Gotta love the 35's

I would agree with the above posters, if you are going to start out with a magnum bolt face in a long action, don't beat around the bush, go with a .358 Norma and be done.

Was21, thanks for the update on your 350 remmy. "2650ish" +/- sounds right in the ballpark.

You guys put a bug in my ear talking about the 358NM but on consideration, I am faced with the simple fact that I just don't want to work with yet another orphan caliber.

I load for 358w,35Whelen and 350rm now and I think that's enough for me. As you may know, love of 35cal, is both a blessing and a curse.

Besides as a poster on another thread pointed out, If I can't kill what I'm hunting with a 250grn bullet traveling at 2600fps and approx.3500fpe, another 150fps or 25grains of lead is likely not the answer.

Anyone have experience working with the savage 110? Pitfalls and/or problems.

Bolt face: Magnum. Action length: Standard.
338 Win Mag = a glad heart.
I love my 35s but in this case the 338 is just too easy.
