I don't see this powder referenced in a lot of places (ie manuals), but I have indeed found a few places online that do give loads for the 22-250 and IMR4198.

I bought a can by mistake a while back. I had meant to buy IMR4895 but couldn't remember the proper number at the store.

Anyhow, the few loads I have found use only about 2/3 of case capacity (About 29 gr max).
But I gotta tell ya...I have tried it with 40gr and 50 gr bullets, and the results were very good. Some of the very best accuracy I have seen out of my gun.

Does anyone else have experience with this powder and that caliber?

The 22-250 is one of those rare cartridges that is accurate with most any powder. That said, I prefer RL-15, H-4895 and Varget-in that order...

Varget does alright in my gun. It also likes H380, but still...4198 does the best so far. Which kinda sucks, because I try real hard to stay away from stick powders. I always end up weighing each charge.

Anyway, I am also going to give Ramshot TAC a try. Funny....I never settle on a load with that gun. I always experiment with powder, bullets, COL, etc...lotsa fun.

BTW, I solved my extraction difficulties with my 12VSS...I just really really need to full-length-resize every single time, then I get reliable extraction. I guess I'll have an RCBS Necksizing Die in 22-250 for sale.

IMR 4198 will not give top velocities in a 22/250. It has a little
too quick burn rate for this cartridge but should give .223 performance with good accuracy.

And yet, I can't hardly argue with accuracy. I believe speed is sufficient. If I go faster, accuracy goes down. What good is that?

I agree, and regularly load .22/250's down with a starting load of 4895 to shoot ground squirrels. The point is that you are getting poorer accuracy from the 4198 as you load it
in increasing charge weight because it is not suitable for max
velocity in a .22/250 size case.

It is best suited for max loads in .222 or similar sized cases OR
slightly reduced, pleasant shooting loads like you are getting in a larger case.

Gotcha....

I will revisit H380, and TAC,just to get away from stick powders.
