.......but have prices soared in the last year. Thought there was little inflation happenening but I have been watching the price of Zeis Conquests for the past 2 years. Check the price increase in Cabellas for an education in economics.

The dollar is worth a lot less. The exchange rate isn't what it used to be. You can thank the Teleprompter-in-Chief for a lot of that.

I was surprised with teh Swaros. I thought I would take advantage of the Anniversary deal or whatever until I learned that it was included in the price...

Another downside to having everything manufactured outside the USA--when the dollar decreases in value......

Of course, contrary to the claims of our fearless bureaucrats in Washington DC, inflation is alive and well......

I thought the binoculars price actually came down in the last couple of years. I was able to afford a very high quality ED binocular with my $350 budget, which would be impossible a few years ago.

I aggree there is more bang for the buck over the last decade but I feel the price of some of these goods has gone up a lot recently. Cabellas was sellng Zeis Conquest for about 475 last year............now 650. To me this is a big jump, though no doubt still good value.

I know. I noticed it as well...at least with regard to the Conquest line. Keep in mind though that they had a special promotion running a year or two ago...I forget what the promotional event was but the Conquest 8x30s were $479. With the promotion over and the cost of all Zeiss products going up you are now seeing them for over $600.

I would agree with the earlier comment though about checking with Doug. He had demos of the Conquest 8x30s for close to the $479 they were selling for during the promotional period.

Now, related to that but not exactly, I love when the prices on some of the expensive optics go up after a year or two time frame and then the manufacturer comes out with some "special deal" that knocks a couple hundred off of the price. The new "discounted price" is the same as the original price was just a year or two ago.

I remember when the price of Swarovksi EL's where $1500 at Gander Mountain. Why? Because they were still in the case from when the store opened up about three years ago. I have an old Cabela's from 6 years ago that has some as low as $1100.

Now, it seems like if it doesn't break the $2000 dollar mark it's not worth them making. As the economy is tanking, guns and accessories keep going up.

What's the deal with Tristate Camera's super low price on Zeiss Victory T*FL 8x42? The only thing I can see is that they don't have Lotutec coating. Is it worth an additional $700?
