I need a set of .416 Weatherby reloading dies. When I checked my first choice was RCBS and they were nowhere to be found and the price was about $145.00 plus shipping, with a 90+ day delay. I checked Midway USA and found both Redding and Hornady in stock. I really don't have much experience with either brand. I bought a Hornady FL set in .308 about 23 years ago to load .307's, so I would have a different set, setup for .307's only. I bought a Redding 8mm Rem Mag set back in 2001 and we had a small house fire limited to one room and one of the carpenters must have borrowed them and has not remembered to return them. So..., these are my choices. The Redding FL set at $71.99 and the Hornady FL set at 65.99 plus shipping on either. There is so little price difference, I would like your opnion on which set is better. Thank everyone in advance! Good shooting, Marcus.

Given a choice I take Redding over all others!
I have slowly replaced all of my older die sets with Redding's over the years.
I've only had one set of Hornady dies and they were OK but they were pistol dies so it's not the same comparison.

While Redding dies are nicer, Hornady has the better lock rings, a cross-cinch design. I'm not advocating purchasing the Hornady brand dies for the rings, but rather emphasizing the point that Redding is doing their customers a disservice in offering a deficient ring design. From my own impressions, Redding is reluctant to copy what they consider to be a Forster concept, stating (to me) that they don't feel the need to furnish a ring that will work in a Forster press. Customers actually prefer the cross-cinch design which locks squarely to the die threads. It doesn't make sense to me that Sinclair, Hornady, Lyman and Forster are able to produce the better design, but a company that professes to provide superior products makes their customers buy lock rings from a competitor if they want something better.
All of this is off-topic, but it has been an opportunity to press (sorry) Redding to reconsider their position.
