Having shot 2 deer with a 270 WSM on Monday this week has only solidified it's place as one of my favorite rounds ever. It's very accurate, flat shooting comes in some sweet rifles and recoil is very manageable.

That being said in a Remington Model 7 the SUAM's are the way to go. They were pretty much developed because the WSM's are just slightly too big to work well in a Model 7. You can shoehorn them in but it's kinda like stuffing a 454 V-8 into a Neon - you can do it but why? The SAUM's are harder to find brass wise but are excellent rounds in and of themselves and fit right in Model 7's.

So for me I'll take the 270 WSM unless it's for a Model 7..........................DJ

Good words there Rancho. And by the way your lil sweetheart of a 7 saum is the first rem of any style that I've worked with that fed even close to the way that it should. All of the 700's/7's in WSM's have been terrible and that's being kind.

Your lil 7 now, that is one sweet rig. If'n I didn't already have a nice lil .270 I'd be a thinking...<g>

I have the ssBDL 7SAUM,a.280AI in a short action and I truly enjoy the rifle. The only problem it has caused me is having to decide whether to keep my .280AI as well! Monashee

I had trouble with the only Rem WSM (300) I had. My 308s and 30-06s feed perfect every time. You saw what the 308 can do at about 12:15 pm on 11/16/09.

My wsm feeds great. 2 shots back 2 back without a hitch and a DRT deer about 7:52 am 11/19/09. Anxious to put this thing through its paces. I'm done for a while.

Keep the 7SAUM and turn the 270WSM into a 350RM. You were looking to do something with the WSM, with a 350RM you'd have a nice elk and black bear thumper. Just a thought.

Midway has brass in stock for 7 SAUM. i've got 200 pieces on the way; coupled with the 100-ish or so I already have, I'm anticipating shooting the barrel out before needing brass.

Sorry Bill, didn't see this till just now. Thanks for the compliment. smile It's a McMillan, Remington Classic pattern, in 50/50 black/white swirl.

I order direct through McMillan (active duty get a discount) but I do believe there's a sale going on right now through the Campfire gear shop.

I've had both and found them to be incredibly similar in every way. The 7mm saum feeds a little better but the 270 wsm fed decently. I still have the 7mm saum, but I still load for the 270 wsm as my good friend bought it from me. For me it's the cool factor of the saum, and the fact that I haven't met anyone else at the range or in the field that has one. Being a handloader factory ammo doesn't play a role in my decision, but I will be buying a 30-06 in the near future, as a backup and sometimes primary, and factory ammo is simply not a problem there.
