Gentleman,

I have been eying a Ruger (MK-I?) 77 Tang Safety chambered for the .358 Winchester. I believe it to be made in 1975 as the prefix is 71 and serial 37XXX.
I have been told only 1000 made before being discontinued.
The rifle's bore looks very good, but as expected for a 30+ year old gun there are slight nicks and small scratches in the wood stock and very light discoloration and freckeling on the bolt, mainly on the extractor. Very light.
What would this rifle be worth? The man wants 850 but I think it worth maybe half? confused confused

Would you say I have a plethora of pinatas?

$850 might be a little high for condition, but its worth more than half what the asking price is by quite abit. I'd guess 7 to $800

2 reasons, one caliber, two it's a red pad, tang safety, highly desirable combo here in my area.

Yes.

Around here, asking price of tang safety M77's in common chamberings seems to run $400-$500.......

A gun shop nearby has on with an ebony forearm in 250 Savage. He's asking $1000. The gun is near perfect. I think he's about $200 over-priced.

$399 sounds like a good deal. How does the bore look?

BTT for an older thread.

I just picked up a Tang safety 358 that looks unfired, has a few safe dents, bolt face is dust covered and was from a collector. Now that I have it, I don't want to devalue what I believe to be a NIB rare gun....trigger guard is perfect, which is rare on these old rugers with the painted aluminum trigger guard and floorplate.

I saw one a year ago asking $1200, didn't sell on the auction site.

I suspect these rare caliber tang safety's will only go up in value, and I agree a decent shooter should be mid 400$.

He still have them? I'd buy a NIB in a heartbeat for 750.

seems like collectors are willing to pay premiums for the red pad MK I's in the standard configuration rifles in (especially rs's)250,6.5,7x64,350,358 and flat bolts in general, slight premiums for the .257,6mm & laminates
also pay premiums on the MK I 264 but those might be "black pads"..cant remember

rsi's & rl's also have a following for caliber related premiums

The one that I have is a M77-V 22-250 with the varmint contour barrel. It is, however, a black pad model. My brother bought it new and I know it has been shot less than 40 times. It's about 95% condition. What should I expect to get for it??

Thanks,
Mike
