Somebody has lost their marbles. I am sorry for posting a live auction, but I'm certain none of us will bid on this. I can't believe anybody in his right mind would bid this high and I don't care if it was GOLD plated. Sorry, for some reason I can't post this as a link, so if you want to view it you'll have to copy and past it to your browser.

they bounce back and forth on Ebay... one will go in the $300 ish zone... a few weeks later one will go for over $500 ... think it depends on who bids early on it.
To me, its a sign of the societal desire for immediate gratification...

I've seen some decent rifles mounted with Stiths on GB lately that certainly don't seem to sell for $500 extra because of the scope and mount.

Here's another, same guy is the current high bidder on both Stith setups, as well as the Rocky Mtn. front sight. Vtg STITH Windage MOUNT Savage M-99 for K2.5 SCOPE NIB Glad I'm not the only one who feels these prices are rediculous.

I was told by the wife one time, If it's something you want and you can afford it, price is of no matter. I've got a lot of miles out of that one. As far as the latest prices are going, the product is not out there the way they were even 5 years ago. What will be in the next 5 years? I would almost part with that amount for a new in the box, if I didn't have one already, that's the catch.

It would seem to some a little out of mainstream to pay this amount but to a lot of folk in differant parts of the country a fellow might call this a day and 1/2 pay and think nothing of it. I pay $9.99 a six pack, you don't want to hear about milk.

I've listened to 17 year old boys whine they only made $38,000 for the three month season of longline fishing. Prices are what you want to or can afford. It don't make you a bad guy. The only thing that would stop me from selling at this price is sellers remorce and needing to replace one.

It's all about the want. If you want it, and you can afford it, then go for it. JMO... No harm in that... I want it, just can't afford it... Oh Well...!!!

All said, the Savage 99 is a genius of a rifle. Although no longer produced, it remains highly revered, as it was the foundation from which Arthur Savage built one of America's great gun companies. >> (Jon Y. Wolfe) <<

Collectable stuff like these mounts, particularly in top condition, just keeps steadily drying up. Running parallel to this is the fact that the number of guys wanting them just keeps increasing. Add in those that don't care about the cost and you have a real seller's market.

Funny nobody's mentioned the "greed" factor!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you won a BILLION dollars in teh lottery would you not buy the next couple nicest Savage 99s that came up for auction... w/o "sharing" any of them with the ppl that have less money... I'm with Don... the nature of collecting is inherently greedy. If it was strictly utilitarian no one would buy more than one gun...

I don't think there is a single one among us that HASN'T at one point or some point paid too much for a gun that they REALLY, REALLY wanted.
I've said this 1,000 times, I'll say it 1000 more (If I live that long)...A gun is worth whatever somebody is willing to pay for it.
