In Leonard LaRue's book, The Deer of North America, there are some photos of 3 antlered bucks.
But, all of the one's pictured there show the 3rd antler growing near one of the two normal ones. This one appears to grow from the center of the head. The hair pattern around it appears natural, but the antler seems different than the others-lighter in color. It is also a nice straight spike. Again, unlike the other known examples.
I suspect it's a fake. But, I really don't know enough about the subject to be sure. E
