Yes, its a pushfeed. I'll go pet my pre-64's after posting this just to assuage them.
But, down to business, local store has a decent condition Winchester Model 70 featherweight XTR in 257 Roberts with a no name scope in weaver mounts for $599. Anybody have one of these? If so, how do they shoot? I'm thinking this gun, plus Christmas special McMillan Edge equals pretty light 257 Rob to back up my wonderful, but porkish, 257 Roy.

Oregon: I bought one as soon as they came out back around 1980;sent it to Jaeger's and had Dietrich Apelconvert it to 30/06 box and follower, and made it a 3" Roberts(you just did this back then, don't ask why Set up like that I got 3200 from a 100 gr Partition;over 2900 with the 120 and shot numerous antelope and mule deer ,coyotes, etc and many new england woodchucks with the rifle, including a near-record pronghorn at around 400 yards.I learned that the Roberts is really a miniature 270 Winchester. The rifle shot the 100 gr better than the 120,but not bad with either....it was a favorite rifle,my second Roberts, and taught me a lot about the Roberts capabilities. I have not wanted for any other 25 caliber since. I would say grab it;even if it takes some tweaking it will be a good rifle.

Had two of them over the years...same experience as Bob's...mine would shoot 100 grainers lights out...absolutely couldn't get them to shoot 120's...
No longer an issue in this day and age, with bullets like the TSX available..
Nice rifles, and good shooters...so good...you'll forget its a push feed!

Ive got one, its shoots 120's well, which suprised me. Last Ruger I had wouldnt shoot 117's or 120's. Im considering parting with mine since I have a NIB M77 MarkII on the way. Safe felt weird without a Ruger in there The fit and finish on the ones Ive handled is very good. The only knock on them is they are a Long Action, with a short magazine (spacer added). You could put a 30-06 follower and mag box in them to make a 3" Roberts. This allows you more room to really get them going if they are appropriately throated.

Don't have one but wish I did, you just don't see many of them around. Maybe try to haggle him down $50 or $100 and see what happens.

Had one, shot decent groups with factory ammo, guy made an offer to buy it well beyond what I paid for it.......so it moved on. The Ruger MKII, had to change out the trigger, then it shot well.

I had one from when they first came out and would still have it had I not lost it in a house fire. Mine liked 75s, 100s and especially 117 grain Sierra flatbase bullets. Killed over 100 whitetails with mine.
Buy it!

Not an XTR but just brought home a pre-war 257 this past weekend. Looking for some range time this afternoon.
