.260 gets my nod 7-08 is great but like others have stated its just not much different tha a .308 as far as recoil goes I love my .260 i double lunged a nice eight point with 129gr. interbond saturday it ran about 50 yards piled up had a blood trail you could have sprinted to the deer I have shot several others that just fell over shooting 140 grain corelokts all that in a little rifle that kicks about like a .223

7-08, though as Casey said, it's kind of a lateral move. They are... shall we say... pretty comparable. smile

Are you doing this for recoil? If so, and since you are building this rifle (it appears) you might consider a fast-twist .233AI. While it's no .308 in the deer woods (BSEG), it a cool target round. I have a medium-twist heavy .223 that I am shooting the snot out of; when it's toast, it becomes a fast twist .223AI. The fast twist let's you run heavy bullets, and the AI adds just enough poop to move em fast enough to be useful, and the .223 means cheap brass. And no recoil.

Anyway I'd hunt the .308 and build the target rifle, 'twer me...

The CENTER will hold.

Does your current .308 barrel have an Abram's contour??? I personally don't consider a #5 contour light in regards to hunting rifles, unless big bores are in the equation.

LoL, yeah its an M40 contour, so liken that to a #7 HVY. Almost an inch at the muzz!

243 is only too little for those who don't use a good bullet and put it in the right place.

My 6BR has been killing Everytime I point it at game, 1 shot 1 kill. An 85 gr TSX, 95 BT, or 90 Swift will kill any deer/hog alive IMHO.

260, well, my user name shows I am a 6.5 slut....nothing but good stuff to say, the 7/08 - kills as well w/more recoil but more ammo options, little better bore life as you go up in caliber as well.
