I'm in the process of a 338-06 build and have really looked long and hard at bullets to try. I've talked to folks, asked questions, and called bullet mfgs. I've narrowed my choices down to the 210 gr. Partition and/or the 210 g. Scirocco. I'd go Barnes if I ever decide to hunt something that bites back but deer don't seem to be that gnarly.

before North Fork changed over to new ownership I had on hand some 225's that I had loaded up for my Rem. 30 @ 2501fps......a real "meat" gun. I would not opt for any bullet that has had a rep of "blowing" up meat. I've 2 of these calibers and believe they are perfect as a .33 caliber goes. Loaded up some 215 Sierras for this and the accuracies out it is amazing..but just not a good hold together bullet...they were cheap when I bought them some 10yrs. back or so. Stick to a good bullet when hunting at them velocities and in that close or slow it down an use the Hornady bullets, should be fine.

TexasJohn sounds like he has the answer to this question. With a little bit of load work you could have the magic bullet for your delema and start eating high on the deer again.

I have Moyer's bottom metal and trigger guard on my Ruger Tang safety 30-06 that's for sale in the classifieds. Top notch.

Just a thought, why not load those 225 Hornady's to maybe 2400 fps? At woods range trajectory should not be an issue and the lower velocity should be easier on the meat.
