I am taking my grandson out for youth weekend here in N.H. and he will be using a 243. I am currently loaded with 100gr Hornady interloc sp flatbase bullets clocked at 2800 average. Has anyone used this bullet on deer and what were the results? I usually use Grand slams but cant find them locally as I cant find any partitions either. Will the Interloc bullet get the job done in 243, all shots will be under 100yds.

While I prefer the Nosler 95 grain partition or the Barnes 95 gr. X, I have had very good results with the Hornaday bullet from the .243. In my experience, it opens fast and usually hangs together for good penetration.
Good luck to your grandson!

I have killed many deer with that set up and have had perfect results. I wouldn't change a thing.

Leave it like it is. They work great, imo.---George <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

My son and I both use 100gr Core-Lokts with great results. I see no reason why your load wouldn't work. Dave

I used those for a long time in a 6mm. I have a 243 now and I load the 90gr Swift Sciroccos. I will be using it later this fall for deer season. That 100gr bullet will get it done, but shot placement is everything!

I have used those bullets in the 6mm rem for years with no problems. I am sure they will work. sako

It's been my experience that Hornady bullet will work fine, and at ranges well past 100 yds.
the most expensive bullet there is isn't worth a plug nickel if it don't go where its supposed to. www.historicshooting.com

The only downside that I see in using a 243 with any bullet is the potential for the deer to run off 50+/- yards before dying, even with a solid lung shot. A 50 yard death run through a picked NE corn field is a lot different than a 50 yard death run through the NH woods, so I would have him try to break both shoulders, rather than trying for a slower killing lung shot. A 100 grain Hornady should do the job if he does his part. Let us know how the hunt come out. BTW, what part of NH are you hunting? I used to hunt on the Plainfield - Cornish line and in the Moose Mountain section of Hanover.

I Live in Deering N.H. where we will be hunting, unfortunately the deer population here is very low. The southern part of the state has a much better population but try to find a place to hunt that doesnt say POSTED! Most of the southern part are Liberal mass transplants now and 3 years ago my hunting partner and I tried to find a decent place to hunt but after a week of looking gave up due to posted property. We had a decent herd around my house but between significant snowfall, a severe ice storm a couple years back (I live in the bottom of the Monadnock snow belt) and coyotes the herd is about dried up. I go out daily in the woods and have not seen a deer all year in my area, but hear the coyotes nightly!!! I went to Hooksett for 1 day and jumped 3 but it is shotgun only there and my grandson being 10 has tried my 20ga and it is just a little much recoil for him. I am going to try to scout out some local areas but talking to local bow hunters they all have the same story, where are the deer! I get the state F&G annual kill report and my area is one of the worse in the state. I guess all we can do is try and who knows.
