Will the Winchester .22 Magnum work properly in a Remington Model 12CS? Thanks James

Maybe, but they probably won't feed through the magazine. The 22 MRF is slightly longer than the 22 WRF/22 Special.
22 Winchester Rimfire = 22 WRF = 22 Special.
CCI makes a run of 22 WRF ammo every now and again.
Remington 12s in 22 Special are pretty collectable and it would be sad to damage it by shooting 22 MRF ammo in it.

I wouldn't try it! It is like shooting a .357 magnum in a .38 Spl or .38 Long! It might work, and it might work for a while - but the gun wasn't built for the higher pressure.

The .22WRF is the same pressure as a .22 long rifle cartridge, not the .22WRM! Plus the .22WRM is longer than the .22WRF chamber and will spike pressure! Not a good idea.

Also jacketed bullet in soft steel bbl designed for lead. WMR is a great round, far better than the silly 17 HMR.... IN a rifle built for it!

The 17 HMR and 17 HM2 have their niche, but it is a small niche.

That was a highly intelligent and well thought out response.
Kinda like saying that it sucks because of the wind and the wind blows everywhere. For the past 5 years I have always taken a Ruger 10/22 Magnum conversion in 17HMR when I go pdog shooting in SD and WY, but I haven't always been able to use it because of the wind. I will keep bringing the Ruger, 'cause when the wind isn't blowing there are few things more fun than shooting pdogs and ground squirrel with a semi-auto 17HMR.
Other than not being able to shoot them when the wind is blowing strongly, what specifically do you find objectionable about the 17HMR and/or 17HM2?

What is the advantage in less wind drift comparing the 22 mag. to the 17 HMR. Does the 22 mag really drift less? I shot a orange at three hundred yards with a 17 HMR in pretty windy conditions. There was snow and I could see my shots enabling me to walk onto the target in 7 rounds. I was surprised how well the 17 HMR did out that far in the conditions I was shooting. I'm thinking OM42 is just an old dog that won't acknowledge a new trick.

I struggle at anything over 200 yards with my 9422M, even though I can shoot 1.5" groups at 100 yards with it. Oddly I can hit what I aim at with a reduced .22 Hornet load that approximates the .22 mag. I really don't understand the difference.
