I finally came to the conclusion that my hunts for game larger than deer were going to me a lot fewer and father between than I'd like them to be and realistically I'd most likely be toting a rifle when those oppertunities did come up. So I sold both my .454's (a 6'' FA and a scoped Ruger 7 1/2'') and my .375 JDJ. My .44's and .45 Colt's will do anything I need to do on the critters around here and they're a lot more fun to shoot.

Ruger Redhawk .44, 7.5". The ease with which a scope can be taken on and off is really nice and in my experience has always returned darned close to zero.

Like JDS though I'm more prone to a rifle these days. I have however been know to "take the Hawk for a walk" in a shoulder holster looking for one of "those" deer. You know the ones. The kind that wait 'til they know you don't have a rifle to come out and show off their racks? One day I'll surprise one of those haughty buggers. smile

Ruger SRH 454, 9 1/2" bbl, aperture rear sight with gold bead front. I anchored an antelope with it two (3?) years ago and got a decent 3 point muley with it this season. I could have got my elk with it this year (was plenty close and was carrying it) but I chickened out and used the rifle. I've found that if I bring the rifle along I tend to default to it. So, next season I'm not carrying the rifle when I'm 'handgun hunting'.

Huntin' season yet?

That's me too - if I have a rifle in my hands, I generally use it. I've already taken a couple of bucks this year with a rifle, so when the second half of the firearms season opens next week, the rifle's staying home. I'm going try and fill a few doe tags with the Blackhawk.

If I can't get it done with a 475 Linebaugh, 500 JRH or Linebaugh, then I'll leave it alone
