What action is big enough to accomodate this cartridge? Would a WBY MKV in 460 do or not?
TIA.

The 408, 375 cheytac, 338 Lapua and the 378, 460WTBY all use the same parent case which is the 416, the first 408's used a 505 gibs parent case but the brass was found too weak thus the move to the 416 Rigby as it is better known. If you have a Mark V in 378 no reason why you couldn't load and shoot the new 350gr Alluminum tip LR bullets (375Cheytac)if we had any data, I would have tried it already. I'm not sure that civilians can purchase these specialty bullets for armour piecing etc... Not available in Canada that's for sure. BC claims at 1 or near which is amazing and leaves all other bullets in the dust. Check Lost River ballistics or GS bullet makers.
It is better to be judged by 12 than to be carried by 6.

So then the 375 cheytac will fit in a 460 WBY action? Another question, so the 408 is based on the 416 Rigby case? That would make it like a 416 Wby no? Sorry a little confused, here due to this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.408_Chey_Tac

No they aren't compatible that way. The shoulders are different and actually the 378 is a shortened 416 and the 460 is the same case but opened up. Wby use a very strange shoulder configuration compared to the long slopes of 338 Lapua etc... All are different brass jugs design but they can shoot all the same .375 cal bullets. A 378 jug actually is bigger than a 338 Lapua in water volume content but the 378 can shoot bullets that are longer than the Lapua can handle due to the freebore. That's why I have entertained the idea of shooting some of these high BC bullets such as the 350 grain Alum tip , 419 grain Lost River and some of the GS bullets designed for the 375 Cheytac. Stay away from these rifles because 375 /408 Cheytac -they are barrel burners and have short life barrels. But the military don't care spending your tax dollars changing out sniper barrels every 1200 rds. You can find more info on the Wikipedia site for Cheytac and Weatherby.

the military don't care spending your tax dollars changing out sniper barrels every 1200 rds. I don't care either if any of those rounds take out an al queida scum. I wouldn't think gunsmiths would recommend the Mk V action if you were going to build a cheytac. If you are going to spend that kind of money on components, you may as well pay a couple hundred bucks more for a BAT or similar action that is already blueprinted and designed specifically to digest that size of cartridge.

+1 on the barrel changes. But for civilian use would get expensive.

CZ Makes a 416 rigby. Would that action true up to make a long range 375 chey tac rig??? Is it possible to have a 375-416 equate to the chey tac??
