I did this today with a new load from my 7STW. Second group I shot with same load went 1/2". The velocity was 3030 fps(ave) which is well below published veloc. My question is should I leave it alone or keep pushing it?

You might want to try a better hunting bullet like Nosler Accubonds, partitions, you have benchrest accuracy in a hunting gun. Doesn't happen that often. But I would say the nut behind the bolt is very solid. nice shooting manitou

I've been using 140 grain Partitions in the 7x57's, and 150 gr Partitions in the 7mm Mag. Groups are 1/2" for three shots at 100 yards.

I would also switch to a more hunting-designed bullet. The AMAX was designed to do what you have done with it, punch paper very close together. Try out the Accubonds or Partitions. I get 3000 fps easily with my B-I-L's 7mm Rem Mag with 160 Partitions and 1/2" groups at 100 yds.

Not too shabby, ST. You're generating over 3200 ft/lbs energy. Try a hunting bullet of a similar weight, and see how it does. Then go forth and fill the ark.

Okay, I tried the Accubonds and I think they'll work......grin. If I did;nt shoot the one holers, I would'nt believe it. Now, which to choose? I think I'm off to buy another pound of H1000 and another box of 160 Accubonds.

Yeah, I have those kind of results in my 300 Win Mag with H 1000 and plain old 220 grain RN's... with a stiff charge, but no pressure problems... and an MV of about 2950 to 2975 out of a 26 inch barreled Browning A Bolt...

Don't you just hate those Accubond failures where 2 out of 3 blow up in mid-air and fail to reach the target?
Those one-holers do look nice.

Maybe it's just me but 73 of H4831 @ 3030 with a 160 seems pretty slow? Anyone else wonder about that? Obviously the buggers gonna shoot... way cool! Dober

I shot them over a chrony. Any chance the chrony could of malfunctioned? With the 162 Amax and 78gr of H1000, I clocked them at 3044, 3004 & 2901? The next day I shot 160 Accubonds and 79gr of H1000 and got vel. of 3243,3224 & 3251. The temps were relativly the same. I also hand trickle on a digital powder scale.

With THAT kind of accuracy, I'm not sure I'd worry about a couple of hundred feet of velocity - but then again - that's why the gun gods invented magnums!
