No problem. The 358 Norma has a very similar trajectory to the 30-06. It does this with a 25%-30% boost in bullet weight, momentum and energy. It kicks more but is not too bad with a good pad. Hits very hard with a great combination of speed and bullet weight. Great moose round. 225 grain bullets turn it into a great plains round as well.

Well balanced. You'll like it.

I built one last year, it's a pretty serious round. Certainly has some recoil, but it also equals .375 H&H power. I was shooting 250 Partitions at 2850ish.

Yes, great cartridge especially in a light rifle.

I've never owned one or shot one, but IMHO there are no flies on the .358 Norma Magnum!

(I do own rifles in .338 Win Mag, .35 Whelen, 9.3x62, and .375 H&H. Of these, I have hunted and taken plains game in South Africa with the 9.3x62 and the .375 H&H. I have not hunted with or taken any game yet with my .338 Win Mag and .35 Whelen.)

My two cents.... Cheers! [Linked Image]

Read this several years ago and that was a GREAT article!!!

I currently hunt with a Remington 600 in .350 RM and a Ruger Frontier in .358 Winchester but if I ever had the need for more power I would skip over the .35 Whelen and go right to the .358 NM...

Iam building one right now (rebarrled M77 7Mag) cant wait to shoot it. I personally anticipate it being a great caliber for me here in Alaska. I wanted something more than my 3006 Ackley for up here but didnt want the run of the mill 338, nor did i want a 375. After doing some research (some of it right here at the campfire) the 358 Norma just made sense to me.

The ability to use cheap .35 cal pistol bullets for practice is one.

I have a .358 Norma and a .375 H & H -- the Norma gets shot a lot more (poking holes in paper) just because of the cost of bullets.

My hunting partner has one on a Springfield action. He likes it so much, he's pretty much quit hunting with anything else.

I just got done working up a load (reduced) for 150 gr bullets so he could hunt deer with it.

Nice article. 35 fan myself and looking forward to getting my Norma running.
Wondering why you didn't try our the Swift A-frames as I was planning on using the 280g model for a big Kodiak. I think they also make a 250g in .358
