My son and I flew into Des Moines late Friday evening and got a few hours sleep before the rolling out at 5:30. We hunted all day, making serveral drives. The big story was a buck we found dead in a creek. Appeared to have been dead several days, and we couldn't find any holes or wounds in him. What a waste, as he grossed in the high 160's.

Killed a few smaller bucks the next day and a bunch of does. My son shot a beautiful 8[Linked Image] point that grossed close to 140.

Some other deer were shot too.

We spent Monday and half of Tuesday cutting up and processing meat.

And, last but not least, here is a shed from a booner that was found on the property we hunt. They only found one side but they think he will go over 200 b and c. They have never seen the deer.

All in all a heck of a trip even though Wednesday was 6 below zero, 12 inches of snow and 40 mile per hour wind. (We did not hunt.) Iowa, you gotta go!

AFTERUM,

Great hunt & congratulations. I hear a lot on how people are stacking deer like cord wood in Iowa. How many deer can a fella shoot there?

Non residents (like me) draw two tags, one buck and one doe for about 550.00$. Residents can get landowner tags and tags for late muzzleloader, but I think no more than 4 or so. We had about 13 guys in camp, and we killed 23 deer. I brought home a buck tag, which I really hate to do, but these guys party hunt, shoot pretty much everything that comes by, and quit when they have more than they want to clean. Most deer I saw in any one drive was 17.
We stopped shooting deer at dark on Sunday, even tho the season did not close til Wednesday. I wish they would be more selective in what they shoot and hunt longer, but I ain't complaining. Oh well, when in Rome.

Great hunt. That property has lots of good potential. I like the set-up, with grinder and all.

Iowa is a fun hunt. I've been there a few times, always with a bow. I see a ton of deer, but never have been able to close the deal on a P and Y. I'll keep trying till its done. You guys did good. Thanks for sharing.

Nice bucks. Congrats on a good hunt, maybe you'll fill that buck tag next time around. My brother passed up some 130s bucks and brought his tags back home as well.

The weather was tough for sure, but the first few days were a blast for sure.

Have a Good One,

Great bucks. Congrats. I hope it was worth the money. You spent a lot more than $550.
