A few days ago we were talking about the bikes in ice and snow. Finnally gave it a go.

Had roughly 550 "studs" between the 2 tires.

THe studs worked good on the ice and did fairly well in the ruts. It was still like riding on marbles when I was fighting the ruts. Soon as I got off the road and started boondocking, it got WAY easier. 4th gear tapped out was giving me about 20mph grin

The studs on the center lugs on the rear tire were ripped out on the little sections of cider road that didnt have snow.

I was still on a skid road in this pic.

Finnally hit a skid road that was rut free. Right after this it got DEEP and soft. It had snow a few inches above the pegs. Was really pushing snow hard and turning was a PITA. I didnt stop to take a pic when it was that deep as I didnt know if I could get going again grin

The look on snomobeil riders faces when they are stopped taking a break and you pass them on a dirtbike is priceless.

I love blasting through new snow on a wheeler or a sled.

Blowing by the sledders WOULD be fun for sure! Great pictures and thank for posting them and the report. Those 'bolt on' studs are cool looking and am glad your experiment worked out so well. I had real studs on my Rokon for a while but they are worn down now and I cannot afford to get new tires just yet. Hoping to upgrade by spring.

You are having WAAAYYYY too much fun out there.

I was maybe 30-35 miles from medford. Off of Hiway 140 just below Fish lake. There should have been alot more snow up there, but it hasnt happend yet. I was roughly up to my knees when I stepped off the bike in the soft snow.

Still unsure about the studs. Kind of un predictable on the dry stuff. You get it layed over in a corner and the back end broke loose and then it hooks up and sends you in a different direction. I think I might try it without studs next time.
