I like JBM's program

http://www.jbmballistics.com/

Bryan Litz recommends it. Use G7 BCs for boattails. Litz's book has many as does this site. Be sure to adjust for elevation AND correct barometric pressure. Here some common ones:

Barometric pressure adjustments
2500 27.32
3000 26.82
4000 25.84

5000 24.90
8000 22.23

The print out has MOA comeups and windage adjustments too.

If you check the box 'Pressure is corrected' under altitude I don't think you have to enter a pressure for the altitude. it will substitute a standard atmosphere pressure for the altitude you enter.

prm,

I did some tests and the JBM program changes the drop and drift numbers even with the "pressure is corrected" box checked. (it is checked automatically)

Try it. I put in 8000 ft and the correct 22.23" pressure. Then changed the pressure to 27" and 29" with the box still checked. The resultant drop and drift numbers changed. The value you have in the pressure box dictates the drop and drift, it is NOT CORRECTED by the program.

Did some quick tests. If you check the corrected psi box you need to have an approximate sea level psi entered. i.e. 29.92. If you check the box and then enter a psi it corrects from the entered psi (sea level) to what it would be at the entered altitude. I think the best thing to do is to check the 'std atmosphere at altitude' box and it will insert the temperature, pressure and humidity for standard atmospheric conditions at the entered altitude.

Are any of these down loadable for use in my dell PDA? Anyone have a link?

The two I use far more often than any others are:

"Point Blank" - free and easy to use, available for download at www.huntingnut.com.

http://www.huntingnut.com

The second is an iPhone app "Ballistic". I think it costs about $4.99. Since I don't take a computer to the range "Ballistic" is a good friend...

Coyote Hunter - NRA Patriot Life, NRA Whittington Center Life, GOA, DAD - and I VOTE!

No, I'm not a Ruger bigot - just an unabashed fan of their revolvers, M77's and #1's.

A good .30-06 is a 99% solution.

Here's a link to a program you can download and use on your PC:
http://www.appliedballisticsllc.com/BergerBallistics.exe

It accepts G1 or G7 BC's, as well as all the other 'standard' variables.

Please let me know if you have a problem downloading/running the program. The #1 problem is that some computers don't interpret the file correctly. It needs to be saved as a .jar file. Email me at: bsl135yahoo.com if you have any problems.

Take care,
-Bryan

Ex bal has two versions one for PC and one that works with windows mobile....there may be other versions but those are the two I use. I think the website is perry microsystems or something like that. I have been playing around with ballistic on my ipod touch and it works okay too, but I like exbal way better.
