I'm looking for a smith who is knowledgeable about, and experienced with Anschutz rifles. I have a 54 sporter imported by Savage in the 1970's that's having ejection problems.

Seeing that you haven't received a response here, I'd suggest that you post your question on www.rimfirecentral.com

I'm betting that you'll get a helpful response from somebody there.

Good luck.

Husky,

Just found an old article about Savage/Anschutz's (Guns & Ammo Nov 1979!!!) (I've got 4 Anschutz's 3 x.22's & a Model 54 in .22 Hornet),

Did you give the bolt and extractors a REALLY good clean ?
(with crud buster or high pressure air plus solvent?) even going as far as disassembly if required ?

Those little hook extractors can get muck under them and in the slots they sit in running along the sides of the bolt body which might keep the extractors from camming over the rim and catching enough of the .22's rim to extract properly.....

...usually the simplest answer to the problem is the correct one....

There are two gunsmiths I'm aware of who KNOW Anschutz rifles; one is Steve Moore in Jacsonville, Florida, and the other is Neil Johnson out in Colorado.
Have not dealt with Johnson, but have had several dealings with Steve Moore. Steve's business is 10-Ring Service IIRC.

Don, Neal or Neil Johnson has retired. He lived in Va. for a long time and did great work when you could get him away from match rifles.

Everything you now do is something you have chosen to do. Some people don't want to believe that. But if you're over age twenty-one, your life is what you're making of it. To change your life, you need to change your priorities.

Thanks for the info.
I do think his name is Neal. I wasn't aware that he retired.
I'm not even sure that Steve Moore is still working. He's a pretty old guy, and was THE certified Anschutz repair center for the east coast.
Neal Johnson was the west coast Anschutz guy.

Try Marc Sherpard in West Yellowstone, I belive it's Altius Guns, he's and old friend and should be able to fix it up for you. I belive he is also a factory trained Anschutz repair man. If for whatever reason he can't tackle the job try Champions Choice in LaVergne, TN. I don't know if the folks at Champions Choice will be able to fix it for you, but they certainly will know who to send it to if they can't.

Champion's Choice is good, and if they can't handle the job, try Champion Shooter's Supply, in Ohio. They were, or are, an Anschutz Dealer.
