Clark, thanks for posting the pictures. By the way, I know who your dad is but I don't think we've met. He rides some nice horses.
DJ, the boy is plenty ready and willing to harvest the 6. Hopefully, we'll get a chance to try early this week. He's cleaning the head of the buck he shot on a hunt a couple weeks ago that was rattled up. I'm working up my courage to post that story.

Never will forget seeing him kill that hog at close to 300 yards off those shooting sticks. He was so little he was standing to use them at the height you used them kneeling. Couldn't believe it when he folded that hog. Guessing he was 6 or 7? Don't remember for sure, but it's been some years ago.

You ought to have some crisp mornings this week to rattle one in for him!

That he does, and I'm sure he'd appreciate the compliment. He doesn't do as much training these days as he used to. Being a 58 year old Cowboy takes its toll.

I'm headed down there on Tuesday. Ain't much better than a crisp South Texas day. Can't wait to get down there.

I rattled up a little buck the other day up here in the Hill Country and couldn't run the little dummy off. He never quite got my wind and hung around for 15 minutes while I went through a couple of more sequences and rattled in a bigger deer that never gave me a good enough look to get shot, and then he just stood there when I got up and moved to my next spot.

I sure like it when a dumb 1.5 year old comes in like that - gives the big boys a false sense of security and adds a ton to the chances of getting another one in.

Sounds like about what happened on Amigo's bruiser.

DJ come when you can. We'll see if we can make some action. I agree on the young bucks. I think they make good bait. A couple times this year I've had 1.5 olds come in and point me but not leave. Pretty quick something bigger usually comes in.
By the way, one our lease guys told me yesterday that while on stand he was watching a 4.5 year old 8 point when a 1.5 year old came out. He was spike with brows. One beam was broken above the brow tine. The 8 bowed his neck away and the spike rammed him in the side and picked him up over his head and body slammed him and walked away. The 8 lay there awhile before regaining his feet.
I asked the hunter why he didn't put the spike in the freezer and he said he was too stunned by what he had seen. When he recovered the spike was gone. If he comes out again I'm betting
his days are numbered.

Wow - just goes to show some of these deer are just born fighters. He needs to bust that little sucker before he punches that spike through the lungs of some big buck that doesn't expect such aggression from a little shaver.

I'm wondering if he's an older buck with sub par head gear.

If not, it's hard not to kind of admire the little rascal....

What a great buck! That first photo with your son/grandson is awesome. It really captures, the spirit of South Texas white tail hunting. Prickly pears, cowboy hats, and a chingon S.Tx mustache. That needs to be blown up and framed. The kid will treasure that when he is an adult.
