Morning and merry Christmas guyz/galz.

And I don't really think of the 340 as a big bore, but wanted to put the Q here as I felt I'd get better answers than if I stuck it elswhere.

I like the 340 and I like the 275 SAF, and have been wondering if there's real world any diff tween it and say anything that you could stick in a 375?

I spose the 375 with 350's would give one a bit more clout. But, what about the 375 and the 300's?

Do you feel that real world and in the game fields you'd ever see much diff?

Say if you shot 25 head of buff with a 275 SAF in a 340 and 25 head of buff with a 300 SAF in a 375. Do you feel you'd see much for diff?

And one last Q if you don't mind. Is it legal to use a 340 on game like buff across the pond? I know it's been done but just wondering if in Zim and or Tanzania if it's actually legal?

Many thx for your time and enjoy your day.

Dober

Remember the line a good big man will beat a good small man. Well the same could be said for the 338 family of cartridges compared to the 375 H&H. The H&H has more bore diameter. I know there is a difference in the numerical amount of recoil but the 340 with bullets of 250+ is so close to an H&H that I can't tell the difference. For example if I was hit on the jaw by a 175 pound boxer or by a 200 pound boxer the result would be the same, I would be flat on my back. I know of guys shooting their one and only buffalo with a 338/340. Most of the PH's would let you do it but be prepared for an extra hole in your buff's hide. I think the PH would be more likely to put in an extra shot but would let you go ahead.

All the PH's I have known are very happy with pretty much any good H&H load. They are usually not all that interested in the details which preoccupy their american clients. This 350 grain business is pretty much the sole creation of Kevin Robertson. On this year's trip, the PH's were laughing about how the drawings in his book were wrong as were his ideas about shot placement.
