BANGFLOP, if you are concerned with the BT,use the 140AB instead;just as accurate as the BT IME,opens nicely and penetrates well at 7RM velocities.....very good deer bullet for the 7RM.

Sounds like I need to plan a trip to the store for some RL22 and some Noslers! I have a good supply of WLRM primers, is the 215 needed for RL22?

Upps! I have a good supply of Rem 9 1/2M Not WLRM. Same question though, Is the 215 needed with RL22? I see alot of folks use them. I used the 9 1/2M's in my 300 WBY with no problems.

Those are the same components I use, except I have the old Hornady Spire point Interlock bullets. I have shot several pounds of them through 2 different rifles over the years.

If a rifle won't shoot well with RL22 and those bullets, there is something wrong with it.

Also, even at 7mm Rem mag velocities, those 139gr Hornady spire point bullets hang together and penetrate like they were bonded bullets...

At this point, I hope I'm not "piggy backin" just keeping to the topic. I have a bunch of 162 grain Hornady interlocks and want to know if anyone's got a good load for RL-22. I'm loving that powder as well.

I'm waiting on components in the mail to start working up a load for my 7 Mag. I have read A LOT and RL22 seems to give excellent velocities across the range of bullet weights, but I hear it is sensative to temperature so I didn't order any. If it isn't the same velocity or close from 90 degrees in the summer to 30 in the winter, I'm not interested. It doesn't do me much good if its accurate, but 10" lower then it was supposed to be.

I have used them in the summer as well as cold winters, and never seen any difference in poi.

Have you shot at extended range to be able to really see? Chronograph? 100-200fps difference is only like 1/2" difference at 100yds, but that's about 5 inches at 500 yds. I suppose it really only matters for long range shooting.

Hunted coyotes and groundhogs in summer and Whitetail in fall thru late winter out to apprx 400yds, never had any problems, Never did any long range paper punching.

Hmmm, well I guess I'll give RL22 a shot if I can't get the stuff I have coming to give me what I'm looking for. I ordered H4831, H4350 and H1000. I'm gonna start with 150 grain E-tip and the H1000....

Bangflop-what kinds of ranges will you be working with?

I'd take a look @ 120 NBT and R22, 150 NBT and 7828.

No. The 215 was developed for the larger Weatherby rounds with used over 100 grains of powder. Rel 22 is no super powder and can be ignited with standard primers in standard cartridges.

I have used it in cartrides as small as the .240 Weatherby.

I shoot from close range 100 yards or less in one hunting area. But my second hunting area I sit on a power line. The shots there range from 200 - 400 yards.

Late this season I shot a doe at 423 yards. The Rem 180 ultra bond (hand load) struck the deer dead in the rib cage, just behind the front sholder. I had to track that deer 200 yards or so. Complete pass through. Hardly no exspansion.

I had tried several bullets in the 300. Yes they would kill deer but it surprised me how hard it was to get a bullet that would work close and far. They either blew up or penciled threw. 300WBY IMO needs bigger game to shoot at than these small 150lb deer for the bullets to work right.

I am looking for a 7mm bullet to take deer at 200-300 yards with a "splat" Other hunters in the same area all agree one one thing. 7mm Mag. But seems to be split on the bullet. About half use the hornady 139 in various styles and the other half Noslers.

140 gr Partitions is the answer

If "Splat" is what you're looking for, I think Nosler Ballistic tips will satisfy. Adjust bullet weight from 120grns to 150grns for affect....lol

I had gave great thought to the 140 Partitions. But at $31.00 for 50 rounds I quite thinking. The Hornady 139 spt is only $22.00 for 100 rounds. Yes the Noslers might be better, But Gezzz.

I shoot all year round from 100 to 400 yards. I do this to keep myself the best shot I can be when hunting season gets here. At $30.00 per 50 rounds would put a hurting on my pocket book.

A shooting friend of mine tells me that Nosler did "stiff'in" there BT's up a bit since the 90's. Maybe I should take another look at them

If Ballistic Tips don't do it for ya, there is always the Accu-bond as well. I would try either if I could hunt with them in California.

A lot of the guys I hunt with use the NBT's 140 or 150. That seems to be determined by which ever shoots better in there gun.

Like I said the deer around here are not that big, We stand hunt and they are not preasured. Still broad side shots are the norm.

The weather here in NC is nasty right now. But I think I will buy a box of the NBT 140's and try them out at the range.

I will have to take a few deer with the NBT's to build my confidence back up.

Honestly I use 66 gr of RL22 or a little more with RL25 with the 162 Hornady bt accubond and Partition. This load yields about 3050 fps and works for about all BG animals. Less meat destruction on smaller deer also compared to a 139.
