Wondering what bullet weight you guy's would suggest for a 1x12 twist 24" barreled 300 WM. I don't handload but am starting to get into it with my father-in-law. I'll be hunting primarily large bodied deer with this rig. thanks

Shilen's web site says it should stabilize bullets up to 170 gr.
From a 300 WM, even with a 24" tube, a 150 gr. Partition is going to be F A S T but should work great. Should be punch through any deer out there unless it's a angled, bone hit type shot. I don't think any deer will suck it up and walk off though.
Enjoying Each Sunrise...

Since most 300 Wins use a faster 1 in 10 twist, I`d do nothing different than if it were the slower 1 in 12 twist.
Like all us reloaders must do, you`re simply going to have to do some experimenting to see what combos perform best in your rifle for accuracy; what bullets, what powders, what primers etc., the whole nine yards. No short cuttin here!
For large bodied deer, start with trying some 150s followed by some 165 grainers.

I shoot 12 in all of mine. Never had any trouble with 200 grains or less.

I would just about bet that the 180's are max but i would say the 180's would be the best. i kinda go with squeeze on this one too, id say experiment but dont be surprised if is sprays the 200's like a punt gun
If the world didnt suck we would all fall off!

Every twelve twist 308 I have shot would handle 200 Matchkings just fine so that 12 twist 300 will likely shoot any bullet of 200 grains or less. This assuming the use of a cup and core bullet. A TSX would probably be limited to 180gr. The standard twist for the 308 Norma Mag from Schulz and Larsen was 12 and the only load available was a 180. They shot fine. As to which bullet weight will shoot best in your rifle; who knows? There are usually othe factors than bullet weight that determine which bullet a rifle will like. GD

Along the same lines, when the 308 Norma came into being, it was built with 1/12 barrels.
Some 308 Win come from the factory 1/12. Far me it from us to understand when the barrel maker says less than 170 grain bullets with 1/12.
We need to just try! Each is a law into itself.
I have a 308N, but it has a 1/10.
I built a 308 Winchester to shoot 150 grain bullets.

You could go with a 1-11" twist & have the best of both worlds.
