I do like old Marlins in great shape like the 93 below. Unfortunately 90% of what is out there are rats with no finish left. I think Savages are the class act of the levers, especially 1899's. Below are a Bird's eye maple stocked 1899A, 1899C, 1899B and 1899A.

I will confess my best whitetail fell to a M99EG in .300 Savage. Sold it to a Buddy who needed a deer rifle, now he doesn't hunt, but still won't sell it back to me!

A.300, .308, or .358 in a pre-mil would be cool, so would the various older calibers, too.

I probably will buy a Rossi M92 in .480 Ruger, just to match my now out-of-production Super Redhawk, and a Marlin 1894 in .45 Colt or .44 mag would be a neat find also.

I have always wanted a Model 71 Deluxe. Shot one once at 100 yards, nailed the bull. Guess I'll have to settle for one of those 1886 Repro Lightweights in .45-70, though.

And I guess everybody should own at least ONE model 94!

The Savage is too heavy & bulky, the winchester is too hard to scope & inaccurate, and the Marlin is perfect.

I had a lever action Daisey BB gun when I was a kid. Does that count? Actually, I have started getting into the lever actions as of late. I got a pre64 M94 in 30-30 about 20 years ago but have rarely used it. I have recently added five Marlins to my gun rack, a 45/70, a 45 Colt, a 357/38, a 32/20, and a 22. I have enjoyed shooting my brother's Savage a few times but always thought the looked kind of funny. I just can't see Gary Cooper walking down the street and into a saloon carrying a Savage 99. I am surprised I didn't get into the lever actions sooner considering all the westerns I watched as a kid.

Frankly..I don't know...they seemed to really fall apart fast..but the lever 76s are worth some Stoopid money...especially in Apache black...
