try to find a sako L461 or Sako A1 (almost identical actions). These are sweet little actions. I have a new, never barreled L461 that I had listed a while back for $1000. It didn't sell and is still in the safe. I think I'll hang on to it

cooper is in the process of making their mini a repeater. sako is probably the best option but rare to find. cz even with stock is probably the cheapest.

An Interarms Mini is rougher than a Sako, but would be a decent build action as well.

I recently bought a rem 799 in 222 and it was OK but there were 2 things about the mini mauser action. You will have to use taller rings than normal to have the small bolt handle clear your scope. The action was very rough and I went to the auto parts store and bought some fine lapping compound to smooth it out.It is a lot better than when I got it but it is still not as smooth as a 700 or cz action. My thought too was to build on that 799 action a custom rifle but now I have it is up for sale and am looking for a model 70 action to do my build. The action seems solid and the trigger can be ajusted but the bolt handle issue gave me second thoughts.

Just get a CZ rifle and go from there. They're so cheap, you can get the whole rifle for a relatively reasonable price. I have had one converted from .221 Fireball to .17 Fireball and am now having a .22 Hornet converted to .17 Ackley Hornet. Don't worry about the bolt handle clearing the scope. Take it off, send it to James Calhoon and exchange it for one he has shaved down to clear the scope (about $40). Might also want to look into one of his single shot followers. They're beautifully made and also reasonably priced. Wow $1000 for a Sako L461 action alone. I have a Sako Vixen Deluxe in EC with a 2-7 Leupold scope I listed for $1250 and didn't even get one offer. I decided to keep it as well, and if the action alone is worth $1000 I'm lucky it didn't sell.

Mine is nice looking and accurate. Kaiser Norton

I keep hoping to find a J.C. Higgins Model 52 in 222 Rem with a price tag of about $150, based on the JCH name on the barrel. (It is a Sako action) Bruce

speaking of mini 223 actions, I recently acquired a daly mini mauser action and am having a terrible time scoping it. the bolt handle hits the rear bell of the scope. I've got a normal 3x9x40 scope on it that I had sitting in the closet and it is mounted in marne 2 piece bases and warne high rings.
I built a stock and everything for it, put it all together and then found out the scope issue. stupid beginner mistake I guess.
My first thought is to flatten the round ball at the end of the bolt handle to give some more clearance. (I've already tried extra high rings. they don't get me where I need to be)

Charles Daly imported some mini-Mausers for awhile; they were made in Yugoslavia, were crude, and rougher than a cob but I bought one because they offered a lefty for awhile. This is what it looks like now and is in the AI version of the .223.

. The action isn't worth anywhere near $1000....that's why it didn't sell. But the little Sakos are nice. I have 4 of them. Also have a CZ. I'd rather have one Sako than 2 CZ's.

Do the Daly actions smooth up any over time? They seemed to be priced pretty reasonably.
