I apologize ahead of time for the vanity of it all, but this is the first time I've ever won big game award. Just opened the APHA magazine. My goat ranked #2 in 2009!

Who were your guide and outfitters? Boat or plane? What part of Misty Fiords? Just curious... . Dennis

Kurt Whitehead, Alaska Glacial Adventures. He guided #2 and #3 for the 2009 awards. It was all float plane. There is a book written by a famous pilot about a wreck on this lake (I promised Kurt I wouldn't tell the precise location, but he said it was OK to give clues). Look at page 283 of Eichner's book. I saw the wreckage. Its pretty sobering. If you look at the blue dot in the last pic on my post, you can see a bit of yellow in the water below it. That's the wreck.

I want to add one other thing. Kurt is the best outfitter I've ever hunted with. Go with him and have fun. Its that simple.

Going with a guide here isn't too likely for me, but good for you all who have to have either family or guides for goats. Was just curious. And you don't need to hint where the lake is...have camped there myself . I was just curious who took you in, since I know quite a few of them. Thanks... Dennis

Well, you ain't too far, if you live in Ketchikan. The only thing that makes that camp less than perfection are the bugs, damn bugs. The rainbows on that lake make just a fishing trip worth it. I took a flyrod after I tagged out and had a great time.

There is some pretty country here... . Occasional insects, but not so bad as further north. Dennis

Some years in the Misty the bugs can be Bad. Over the years I have been on Goat hunts where the Goats were constantly on the run or hiding in ice crevasse. Not good for hunting. Not good when you go thru a bottle of Deet on a hunt so much that it melts your Helly Hansen's in places, and that's with head nets also !!!!!
And the Horse Flies in spring (way inland in the Misty) can be way bad.
Nice Goat HS, congratulations ...
We took #1 place in the Sitka Deer category.

When I was there, the goats were on or very near the ice. This goats ears were absolutely packed with insects. I sometimes think I did him a favor.
Congratulations on the Sitka!
