ILya Koshkin is a real respected expert who doesn't do evaluations by looking out a gunshop window.

The Redfield sound like a decent scope for folks with tight budgets. He did not have one with the peep-plex retical and holdover dot which I would view as additional pluses.

The Leupold guarantee is worth a premium as well.

Do these have the exact same guarantee/warranty as the gold ring Leupolds?

or is it to the original purchaser only? limited in time?

Cant compare the Redfield to the Viper but I can compare it to the Diamondback. The Vortec Diamondback is brighter and more clear than the Redfield. The Diamonback is larger especially the eye piece. It is also higher quailty, spin a turret or adjust the eye piece and you know instantly.

ever wonder if they are using leupold components and a low price to start the brand when they will be heavily reviewed and critiqued? then later they will either start using lesser quality stuff or raise the price, or both, to increase the profit margin. It's what I would do anyway.

Now that's a good point dj, I wouldn't mind seeing that either.

If they are useing the same parts there is no way to tell. They are different in everything you can see and touch.Very similar but different.I like the Redfield 2-7x33,it fits my purpose very well.To me its ahead of the VX I but small things like when you loosen the lock ring to adjust the eye piece the eye piece can be wiggled because of the course threads. When you tighten the locking ring everything is fine.I am not saying this is bad but when you are used to the very fine threads and then feel this it gets your attention. It seems to function just fine.

There are quite a few scope makers who start building a scope in one location, say noted for quailty, and move manufacturing around to different plants and even different countries to lower costs. At least with these new Redfields, you'll know where it's being built from the get go. Optics makers are always sourcing small parts for various reasons. Sometimes to lower costs, sometimes to increase quality.
