"In THAT case....

A younger Ingwe with Ingwedog and dead trout"

.......I won't comment on killing and eating trout like that.

An Eastern friend of mine once told me a story about going to an upscale fishing lodge here in Montana. One day he and his guide decided to take some time off from drifting the Big River and instead fished some beaver ponds that were absolutely chock-full of pan-sized brookies. Of course they kept a bunch and brought them back to the lodge, and the cook fried them up for dinner (well, along with some steaks).

When the cook put the platter full of brookies on the dinner table one of the other guests exploded. "You mean you actually KILLED TROUT?!"

"You mean you actually KILLED TROUT?!"

A neighbor was complaining about hogs rooting up her yard and garden; my services were offered gratis. "What do you do with them?"

"Well, I'd be using a trap here and I'd need to put them down before donating them to the local charity."

"You can't get them out of the trap alive?"

"Uh, no."

"Well then, I'll just put up with them."

"I'll let you take them out of the trap alive if you want."

Harsh glare followed, discussion ended. Steelhead is right about people, at least some of them anyway.

BTW, there are trout in the mountain streams of Vietnam and grenades are really effective. Don't know if I invented that harvesting technique or not. Sorry, no pictures of that.

I am..........disturbed.

And steaks grow on trees.

Amazing how far from reality people can be.

Somehow, when I sit down to a medium rare antelope steak with a side of fresh brook trout grilled in butter, I have a very difficult time staying sad over the lack of "fine dining" here in Montana (or worrying too much about the "hook 'em & cook 'em" philosophy).

During a visit from my in-laws, the FIL and I were fishing in the pond when my Dad wandered down for a chat.

The FIL landed a respectable largemouth and unhooked it. He looked over to me and asked if we were "keeping them", to which my Dad said, "Well I don't know what your having for dinner if you don't."
