No serial number, neat little lever lock on the right side by the trigger guard. .303, cresent metal buttplate, patena, good no-ding wood, tight, fair to good. What's it worth to a average non-rabid Savage collector....if there is one... smile

No...no...no Drew, those are Canadian prices your quoting.

Those 1856's go alot higher down your way.

Well it says Savage was organized in 1894. I also don't see a model 1856 smile. I mean, unless Savage made a Savage before Savage was Savage?

Could it be the earlier Civil War-era Savage revolver, with side safety and chambered in .303 cap-and-ball? The one carried by J.E.B. Stuart before he lost it and started using a LeMat?

Does it have "U. Grant" carved in the side of the frame with an old rusty nail?

Guns and Ammo has a decent article on the Burnside Breech Loader. Some of these where stamped "Burnside's Patent/Model of 1856. Has a breech lock lever on the right side and a cresent butt. I admit it would be hard to confuse with a 99 but the similarities are notable if one thought (or was told) it was an old Savage.

Whoopsy....Somewhere between 1856 (Pawn shop owners description) and 1899. Obviously a 1899, it has the brass cartridge counter, but I don't get the little slide lever locker on the right side by the trigger guard. Anyone got a picture of that? He want's around $550....

"neat little lever lock on the right side by the trigger guard"

I was thinking, this really narrows it down as to which model wink
