Soon I will be working up a load for a mod 70 win I'm having made up in 270 WBY. I want to shoot a 130 gr-- thinkin accubond or Interbond. In the meantime I have 130 gr SSt's for breakin and practice (cheaper) yotes, etc. I have all the usual suspects for powders 25,22,7828, tumbo, magnum, etc. My question is " Is there a sweet spot for the 270 wby on oal?" reason I ask is how weird it is that alot of 257 wbys are more accurate with a shorter OAL than one would think prudent. Both of mine are anyway. I kind a view the sweet spot for the 257 to be 3.150 to 3.250 depending on the bullet used. The gun will have a saami chamber and throat. I shoot barnes tsx's in the 257's so I kinda want to stay with a sleek bonded core with this one if possible. Any loads would be appreciated also. Don't worry. I work up my loads from below for "MY GUN".

I've found the shorter oal do shoot better in wby's. Dont have notes handy for the 270 wby at the moment, but RL22 and H4831 are excellent choices.

must not be many users out there.. I'll figure it out. Just might have to fire a few more downrange OAL is a theoretical measurement. It is goverend by two things: 1. The shape of the groups - if you have 2 together and a 3rd apart, seat deeper. If you have a large equilateral triangle, seat out further, I recommend a 1/4 turn on your seating die for each test gradient. 2. The magazine box. Sometimes you have to stop because of this restriction. JW

Perfect... I've used your advice before on this and it worked ie--257 wby.. And yes. The magazine length kinda limits things sometimes. Im just about to employ this once again on a 25-06 wby lightweight thats shooting 2 tsx's over each other and the third one out an inch. Gonna seat deeper. sometimes I have to be reminded!

Agree on the shorter OALs. No longer have my .270 WM, but that was indeed true w/ it. In any case, except for a single shot, the magazine is usually the limiting factor in OAL, and with Wby freebore you can't get close anyhow.

agreed, with a factory rifle you can't get close to the lands in the weatherby mags or the rums. Usually you don't need to.
