Can a damaged 243 WIN barrel from a Savage 99 be bored out and rifled to 7 mm - 08? Or can someone recommend a barrel maker who can furnish a 7 mm -08 barrel and fit it to a Savage 99? It is a non-takedown model.

Here is a smith that has worked on 99s. http://www.gostomskisgunsmithing.com/

I'm north of the 49th. I have a shillen match barrel in 7mm08 in a 99C that my oldest son hunts with all the time. Bloody thing is a tack driver! He is really happy with it. One conversion that I would recommend.

What is the serial range and rifle style (rotor or magazine).

Easy change from 243 to 7mm08, with a new barrel. I believe my was around a couple of hundred dollars to do. The magazines are the same. Mine was switched from 284 to 7mm08.

Could do a 260 Rem to if so inclined.

I had a perfectly good 99F 243 barrel rebored to make it a 260, so I think that your 243 could be rebored to 260 or 7mm-08.

I can't remember the guy's name, but I think that he is GRASSHOPPER's favorite 'smith, somewhere in MI.

Re Gostomski, couple years ago saw a 1903 .308 he had built at the VAlley Forge PA show. Very well proportioned handsome rifle, excellent workmanship.
