Why would you post this in the Savage forum as Savage never made a 25 Remington?

Remington Model 8, 14 and 30 were it for the 25.

You should also be specific on the cases' age as early one had mecuric primers and are not safe to reload.

That wasn't it for the 25 Remington, There are members here that possible have a Stevens in that caliber - it's still not a Savage but the Stevens have been talked about here before, including a poll of the numbers in 25, 30, 32 and 35 Remington.

? Why not? John's one of us. If a guy wants to dispose of something here, among his friends, again why not? It doesn't happen on this forum enough to be an issue.

To have "mecuric" primers they would have to be a hundred years old. New Zealand didn't exist 100 years ago.

Wasn't the Standard Rifle chambered in .25 also?

OOP's Forgot the Standard!!! But I do think some members have a Stevens in 25.

OLDMAN,I think its pretty decent of anyone here to give other members of "THIS" forum a chance on anything firearms related. This may be the savage forum but a lot of us collect other things,including Stevens High Power Rifles that use the Remington calibers. Don

Oldman I posted here for the reasons offered above. I have a lot of friends here and seeing that Midway is selling the brass at $36.00 for 20 and dies at $76.00. Just wanted to offer it in case someone can use. Sorry that it seemed to offend you..

Its new Remington brass maybe a year or so old. Getting to the pm now fellas

Remington has not made 25 remington brass for a LONG time. They have made a few runs of 30 Remington, which works fine necked down.
Qual Cartridge makes properly headspaced bress for the 25 Remington. Not cheap but lasts forever.

As far as mecuric primers .... 1910? Better check your facts friend.

BTW how many of you actually own and reload for the 25 Remington?

Johno; One thing I noticed is that you have been registered since 5/11/05 an have 509 posts, I�ve been registered since 7/13/07 and have 327 post (328 with this) and the old man has been registered since 9/15/09 and has 993+ posts!!! And in all of his posts here on Savage Collectors I have not seen anything really productive come from any of them! He gave a lot of misinformation when we were discussing the 23-AA some time ago. I think he ought to slow down the writing and do more reading. Myself, if I wasn't interested in 25 Remington I would not have read the post!

By 1910 mercuric (not "mecuric"- y'all ever hear of spellcheck?) primers were passe. The gov't recognized the problem in the 1890's and switched from a mercuric primer to a potassium chlorate primer, in 1898. The commercial loading companies were quick to follow suit, as were the British. The French on the other hand ignored the problem for decades afterward, insisting on loading 8mm Lebels w/mercuric primers. They were great primers, but the mercury amalgamated with the brass cartridge cases upon firing making them brittle. The chlorate primers stayed in use by the gov't in .30 ball ammo until 1951-1952, depending on the arsenal. The old FA-70 primer was great- very, very consistent. The trouble was, the KCLO3 salts were very hygroscopic (attracts water like crazy) making for rusty bores right quick if you didn't clean immediately. I can remember old guys lamenting the disappearance of the FA-70 primers from the inventory of the DCM for sale to reloaders. Target shooters loved them for their consistency.

Commercial ammo makers went non-corrosive long, long before the gov't did. When depends upon the particular manufacturer, but generally by the late 20's early 30's.

Basically, if it's made from around the introduction of the 1899 onward, it's non-mercuric. Non-corrosive 30 years later.

Oldman, before you start a pissing contest with me you'd best have your ducks in a row. Especially on a morning when I didn't get any sleep the night before because of a nasty chest cold.

I have used .25 Remingtons as recently as 10 years ago to form cases for an obscure .22 wildcat. They have many more uses than for simply loading .25 Remingtons. I'm glad they're still available. If I still had that old Lindahl chucker I would jump on Johno's offer like a chicken on a June Bug.

Well I'm interested in the 25 Rem stuff ,so much so that I finally registered. But I'm not sure how affordable it would be to send to the U.S.
