Am thinking about picking up an encore with a 6.5-284 barrel, with the intent of using it as my loooong range varmint rifle, and maybe just as another deer wacker....
Anyway, any thoughts? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/help.gif" alt="" />
I'm not to crazy about those guns, but that is certainly a cool round. When you say "looong", what exactly do you mean? And what type of varmit will you be shooting?
I have an encore with a 6.5x284 Bullberry barrel on it. Here's a pic in case you're interested. It's a sweet shooter. It'll shoot .4's if I can shoot that well. (Probably better, but I'm not a good enough shooter to keep up with it)... I'd recommend a 24" barrel. Fred will try and push you back to about 22" but given the short Encore action it makes for a pretty short carry gun even with the 24". Mine shoots anything from 85gr Sierra's up to the 129 Hornadys really well. I haven't tried anything beyond that as I couldn't see the need.
IMHO Encores are sweeeeeeeet! We got my wife one in 7mm-08 and it's a shooter for certain! Get it and tell us ALL about it? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
