The boots made by Charley are probably the finest I have seen since I started hiking in 1956 and he can and does adjust rocker, stiffness, weight and fit to your specific requirements.
Kutenay,
It's a real stroke of luck to find you on this site. A person simply can't ask for a better person to judge boots than a master bootfitter. I'm also lucky to know the head bootfitter at a large Seattle Flagship outdoor store, and between the two of you I am getting some wonderful advice. Your comments about Van Gorkom's echo those I've heard from others. My understanding is that where Charles shines bigtime is the personal attention he gives towards determining the right size and fit. I've balked at the prices before, but maybe I'll start getting serious about a pair of boots. When I start thinking about it, I've probably spent close to the amount he charges, on boots that haven't fitted me, over the last few years (did that statement make sense?).
Appreciate your advice very much. Also, on the topic of Schnee's, I examined a pair of them many years ago at an outdoor show and they look to be extremely well made boots for cold weather.
Regards,
Cliff

ps - Agree with you on the old boots of the 70s & 80s (Raichle, Kastinger, Galiber, Pontvert, etc.) I have a pair of Raichle Rotondo 9.5 W's that are not even broken in yet, which I may put up for sale here. They just don't fit me. I'd rather see them go to someone here rather than on Ebay.
