At www.jegeren.com/hjemmelading/jaktkuler/jaktkuler.htm i found a general overview of many bullets.
For premium bullets click on Premiumkuler and Standardkuler for standard bullets.
You can find three sort of information; expanded diameter in %, retained weight in % and penetration, best ones get 100%.

Do you think these numbers are fairly correct?

In my opinioin Norma Oryx have too low numbers for retained weight. 85% are more correct than 75%. And most often Lapua Mega has more retained weight than other standard bullets.

Norwegian-I come from an era where there wern't as many choices as there are today. The first so-called premium I used was a Nosler.Bullet placement is the key.I doubt time after time belting the same Elk with Noslers-A-Frames or whatever the same result will be a dead Elk if you put it in the right spot.Seen alot fall to the 30-40 Krag-.270-.06 and .300 with store bought ammo which then was not premium ammo.

I shoot them now..Nolser and Barnes but back then if you didn't reload they wern't available but the factory stuff worked if you did your job in putting it in the right spot.

Good luck to you.........Jayco.

Cool site. The data looks accurate though I don't have experience with many of the european bullets.

Some pretty good designs. I used a 22-250 AI fast twist for caribou hunting for several years in Nunavut. The 74RWS Conepoint became a favourite. Really excellent terminal performance and I never recovered a bullet as it always exited with good size wound channel.

Hard to find these over in NA though and EXPENSIVE when you do. It's often cheaper to talk to a custom NAmerican maker and have them make you a custom design.

logcutter,

Couldn't agree with you more. Dad taught me 45 years ago that there was nothing more premium in shooting than putting it where it was supposed to go.

I also shoot the premiums now because I can, but for years I used Core Lokts, and killed tons of game. A shot through the lungs of a moose, deer or bear with a 30-06, or even a 303 will kill them dead. A poor shot will not have the same results.

This year I used Barnes TSX in my 300 winnie, and loaded Nosler Partitions for my wife and daughter in the 30-06. All of us killed game with one shot this year, and at distance too.

Norwegian,

I think the Barnes probably have the market cornered on weight retention, but I may be wrong. I sure like 'em, but I have yet to recover one from an animal. Same as the 150 Nosler Partition. Light loads through the chest of a deer at 200 yards. Good wound channel, and a dead deer after a trot of 30 feet. I call them "pink bullets" cause I load them for my wife and daughter.
