I've got a Ruger Craig Boddington Leopard in 7x57 coming and need a scope.
Shots are in mixed terrain with the average shot of around 100 yards and no shots longer than 250 yards at Whitetails.
I'm figuring a Leupold 1.5-5x20mm matte with heavy reticles.
Are there any other 20mm scopes worth looking at ?

If you can find a Leupold M8 fixed 3x, it would be a dandy on your 7mm, and would allow mounting the scope back far enough for comfortable eye relief and a good cheek weld. Number 1's have their scope rings pretty far forward for shorter scopes. To my mind, even a Leupy 1.5x-5x sits farther forward on a No. 1 than I would prefer, but everybody sees a scope a bit differently.
A fixed 4x would also be the berries on your rifle.

I saw the same rifle at the local gunshop today, very nice!
I had a Burris Compact 3x9 on my 1A and liked it, I would also consider a Sightron 4X, Burris 1X4 Compact and the Leupold. As far as matching the quality of the scope to the rifle, I would lean towards the Leupold.

I just bought a 1A in 30.06 and am thinking about using an old 3x Leupold I have . Also have a Leupold 2-7 vx2 or a newer leupold 1.5-5 would do as well . The 1A lends itself to the smaller type scopes as a 2.5-8 Leupold looks front heavy to me, especially with the 22 in barrel. I think a 3x is the go, I hope the Leupold folks have one again soon!!!

If I remember correctly, that rifle is going to have a fixed-sight 24" barrel on it VS the fixed sight 22" of the regular 1A Rugers(correct me if I'm wrong).
Either way(22" or 24" barrel) my choice would be a Leupold FX-II 6x36mm.
This scope has long eye relief and a longer tube than most smaller Leupolds and would allow you to overcome the forward mounting dilemma that the Ruger #1 presents. Plus give you ample magnification for shots out to 250 yds or more.

I have a Leupold VX-II 2x7x33 on my Ruger 1A Roberts. Eye relief is great; for me it's the perfect variable for the 1A. The scope was made for the 1A.
