Curious as to what some of you think of the posibilities of rebarreling an 1895M. Say with a 26" PAC-NOR type barrel, and still chambered in the 450 Marlin cartridge. Some of you such as Pat, and Mr. Ricks, are the chamber reamers available, and what do you think the probable cost would be.<P>Phil

A Pac Nor Stainless Super match barrel is about $230, I think a CroMo is about $160, not sure, I am away from the price lists in the shop. Installing a barrel on a lever action Marlin takes a bit more machining than a bolt action rifle (got to machine the dovetails for the magazine hanger and forend hanger, plus machine the shank "hood" where it goes in the receiver to clear the bolt properly, plus the groove on the bottom of the barrel to clear the magazine tube. And if you go with a larger diameter barrel, have to machine the groove on the bottom of the barrel deeper, and I machine a concave radius on the rear of the barrel to blend with the front of the receiver.) I have a 45-70 match reamer and the 50 cal reamers, but I do not have a 450 reamer, but can get one from Pacific Precision in about 5 weeks delivery. So, yes, this is a very fesible job, just a bit costly. Mr. Ricks: Keep me in mind, in a few months I may be giving you a call. What I would be looking for is a 26" barrel, magazine tube for 5 not counting 1 in the chamber, a large loop lever such as Wild West Guns or yours, and I would like to add about an 1 1/2" in pull length. I don't want any kind of barrel porting, but kind of like the idea of the mercury type suppressors in the stock. I would want you to match a proper scope, using Burris Signature Double Dovetail Rings and do what ever to make this a very accurate lever gun.<P>Phil
