Hello, I'm trying to repair a stock that has some wood missing. I'm trying to fill it in with wood filler and then stain it. I cannot find any wood filler that will take a stain. I've tried elmers and now a different brand. Can anyone tell me what will work. Both of them say they are stainable but they are not. Thanks for any help. James

Sanding dust from the stock and mixed with epoxy or glue works for me. mask off the area so it doesn't go where you don't want it to go - just the holes/chips clean the wood to get the oils out first. I have used the Minwax max performance wood filler stuff -it will take stain but not real well. I have also put some of the brown dye from a brownells glass bedding kit in it too.
