Or, a used Leupold M8 or FX-II.

Already emailed Doug. He has nothing but the Pentax gameseeker which for this application would be fine except I don't like the Precision Plex reticle!

Agreed on that reticle. See the other suggestions.

Not a fixed power but the Leupold VX-1 1x4 heavy duplex is in your price range. I'd get one over the Weaver 4X. I'm not sure but I think Nikon discontinued the Buckmaster 4X.

I am looking into several. The Weaver K4 ( a little bigger than I wanted on the objective side) being one!
I am open to a variable also!

Maybe a 4x32 Sightron S2???
Just bought a 2.5-10x32 S2 and it does compare very favorably and is almost on par with my 1.5-5x20 VX111.

I would go with a used scope, probably a Leup.

The Sightron is a good one for a levergun as that its extreme lack of mounting room won't matter. The Weaver is great, but the 38 mm objective is a little big for a lever.
To me a lever begs for 20 mm. A good one in 4x would be the Burris Short Mag (formerly compact). I have all three of the scopes I have mentioned and the Burris is great on a lever.

I have a 4x32 sightron on a marlin 94 and its as good choice as there is, optically its indistingishable from the 4x33 FXII.
Some may disagree but I feel that the 32mm objective scopes I have (4x32 sightron, 1.5-6x32 Leupold, 1.75-5x32 Burris and 4x33 leupold all are better dawn and dusk scopes than the two straight tube scopes I have are (2.5x burris and 2.5 Leupold). Of course if your not going to be using the rifle at dawn/dusk it hardly matters.

What VA said, had one on my boys 7BR deer rifle, punched a .400 or thereabout group for 3 100 yds last time out.....and dropped a doe on the run at 200 yds.....no problems. FOV a tad smaller than a Leupold, but for the money, it served it's purpose. If you found a duplex M8 3x, that might be a nice scope if had for $200, for that 35 and where you might take it. Had a 2.5x on my 357....light small compacts are nice. I'd bet a simple 4x Tasco or Bushnell would serve well also for even less dough, but a Nikon ProStaff is less than a C note. NOT just for rimfires

Why not try the new Redfield 2-7? Under $200, made by Leupold and backed by their warranty. What's not to like?

I like the idea of the Sightron 4x32 compact myself. It's very lightweight as well.
I just put a Vortex Diamondback 1.75-5x32 on my BLR in 358 Win. Beats the hell out of the old Weaver K3. The 3x magnification was good and the light weight of the K3 was great but modern lens coatings and optics mean everything to my aging eyes. The Vortex looks great sitting atop of a levergun.

The Weaver K4 is a great scope, but it does have a 38mm objective.

I also had thought that Nikon discontinued the Buckmaster 4x40, but FWIW the new Midway catalogue has it. I have both the Weaver and Nikon, and prefer the Nikon by a good margin.

I let my brother who lives in Idaho have my stainless BLR in 270 WSM for his Saddle gun when he hunts in the fall in north Idaho. He has hunted for years with his WBY Mark V 300 WBY WITH A 6-18X40 Shepherd ? scope but at 57 yrears old this combo was getting HEAVY to tote year after year.He bought a Nikon Pro Staff 2-7x32 to go on the BLR and he loves it! He said it really surprized him the clarity and dusk performance it has at under $200 bills. Plus the whole light weight package the BLR 270 WSM with scope is alot easier to tote than his old hunting rig. My Wife bought me a Nikon Pro Staff 2-7x32 for my Ruger RSI stainless 7mm-08 and so far I have really been impressed by it also.

Nikon. You should be able to pick one up for around $120 and use the rest for something else. I sometimes see refurbished ones for a little less than that, but the price for a new one is very reasonable, and the one I have was NOT made in Communist China (compared to some others around that price point). The scope is set to be parallax-free at 50 yds, which should be about perfect for a 35 Rem (yes I know a 35 Rem can reach out past 100 yds, but I expect most shots with a 35 Rem to be under 100).
