I held them on Thursday- he had three variations including one that was a true VLD. What makes a bullet a 'true VLD'?

That would be sweet! I asked Lapua as well... Though I never used them myself I do not know how the scenars would act on big game. From what I know from some users (Remington 25_06 was one of them) from LRH they failed to expand most of the time. I can not speak from first hand knowledge though.

I got an e-mail yesterday from Tom Hines at Berger with a picture of the bullets. I don't know how to post pics on the fire, but I can e-mail them to someone if they would be willing to do it for me. Heres the text of the e-mail.
Gentlemen,
For those you of unable to stop by our booth at the SHOT show. I would like to let you know we are one step closer to producing the .338 Berger Bullet. The attached photos are of a 300gr VLD (tagent ogive on the left) and 300gr Hybrid(tangent/secant ogive on the right). Once I have more information I will make sure to pass it along
Warm Regards,
Tom

[/quote] I can speak from first hand knowledge, the Scenars are great for target work on paper, but fail to expand every time (from game to 3/8" Hardox 500). Just use the 300gr SMK and be happy until June of 2016 when the 300gr VLD Berger hit's the market. B

To clarify, the image shows the Berger 338 cal 300 gr BT (tangent ogive) on the right and the 300 gr Hybrid (tangent and secant ogive) on the left. The VLD is not shown. We have made enough samples for pictures but need to get the machine production ready. This will be done with 30 cal.
Regards, Eric
