I have often wondered how otters manage to survive the winter.

Do they move into beaver houses?

Do they keep the ice open like seals so they can breathe?

When they go fishing how long can they stay under water holding their breath?

If they are restricted to having to return to a breathing hole they must not be able to fish far from the hole so they must wipe out the fish near the hole very quickly?

I have gone ice diving and seen the ice sits right on the water with no space in between for air so how do they do it?

The local otters fish all winter, the fast water sections of the river stay open so they have no problem accessing dinner! Monashee

Monashee,
I don't think Jburner was referring to you. You were the only one posting a serious reply to his question. Maybe the others who posted could have answered also but felt that trying to be a comedian was more important.

I take some umbrage with the word "Canuckastanis".I note that I don't find jburner posting in any of the hunting or shooting forums on this board, and that raises a red flag for me. Monashee

My favorite song is "Canuckistan Forever". I prefer it to "Oh Canuckistan." The national bird of Canuckistan is the house fly. The National Art Center is a hockey rink.

Canuckistanis can be differentiated from all other nations because in a debate they all talk at the same time and nobody listens.

The symbol on the flag is supposed to be a maple leaf but its really a hockey puck with ragged edges from having passed through a few sets of teeth.

A Canuckistani is some one who leaps at the chance to sacrifice our civil liberties fought for with generations of our blood to appease the few intorlerant.
I guess it can include those who have not awoken to reality do to pucks to the face and such but I believe there is still hope for them.

The post is actually a question about what otters do to survive in the winter but once you bring the Hansen brothers into the act its difficult to keep it from going off the rails.

As someone who wore a uniform for 21 years, I find the term distasteful as well. Given the tone of many of his posts, I see red flags everywhere.
