Can you use rifles or handguns in your state to hunt turkeys? In New York we are only allowed to use shotguns or bows. Not that I would hunt with a rifle, just wondering if other can and do.

Rifles and handguns, with certain restrictions as to bullet weight, etc., can be used in Colorado for the fall turkey season only.
Spring season allows shotguns or archery only.

No rifles in CA. You can use an airgun IF it's larger than 17 caliber. I would want to use a pretty powerful air rifle for turkeys.

Fortunately, my 12 ga works just fine.

In Nebraska, spring and fall it is shotgun or archery, but no rifles or m/l rifles.

I was surprised to find that this is true-- .22 caliber air rifles are legal for turkeys in California. I'd be interested to know how this regulation came about.

There are probably about a million urban turkeys around the town of Sonoma where I live. Maybe I should get a .22 cal airgun?

In AL, shotguns or handguns (not sure about ML). Handguns can not have a scope.

The game warden told me yesterday that he uses CB caps in a 22 rifle for suburban, aggressive turkeys.
We had him shoot one about two years ago, and now 41 more showed up. The lady down the street has been feeding them and they are losing their wildness.

I used to share a lease with a bunch of guys who liked to use their tricked out 10-22's and head shoot turkey during the spring season. They gave me crap about using my shot gun until I called a big gobbler in and head shot it with my Ruger MKI .22 pistol. Thus ended that crap.

In Florida,we can use rifles on private land. Most WMA regs state either shotgun only, or say "no centerfire rifles allowed".
I've killed several with a .22 mag, correctly used it will flatten a turkey.

legal in PA in the Fall and I beleive that it must be centerfire and .22 caliber or larger. I have taken a ton in the fall with several .22 caliber centerfires, 256 winchester, several of the pistol cartridges and other centerfires as well. Just another excuse to get the rifles out grin
