I like the loose powder, the pellets not so much. It is easy to clean up. In my area it is difficult to find real black, and the T7, to me is better than pyrodex. I haven't tried the newest BP substitutes. You will here comments about the crud ring, but I haven't had much problem with that, using the loose powder.

An Omega, a 250 TMZ and 110 grains of loose 3f T7 are a deer killin' combo in my neck of the woods...

The downside to Hodgdons 777 is the crud ring that has to be removed after each shot with a moist patch. It was a great improvement over pyrodex as it was much easier to clean with just water.

The BH-209 does not need patching in-between shots as no crub ring developes with much less smoke. I will take 4-5 T/C Pro hunters to the range and not having to patch in-between shots cuts my range time in half.

Western powders has provided use with a superior powder over 777 yet lacks the marketing to the ML shooters that an alternative is available.

I still believe that more 777 was "SOLD" in 2009 that BH-209 partly do to Hodgdon has a better distribution network for all of its powder products and Western powders does not.

Hey Doc, What you said below, don't you think that paying around $8 to $10 more for 10oz. of BH-209 than 1lb. of 777 might have something to do with it? Also, when I shoot 777 in my White Super 91, I do not have to swab with a patch after ever shot.

I have a love hate relationship with T7. However ihave sworn off of it, and went back to straight 3F BP.

I have a Knight LRH that really shoots well. And the rifle shoots T7 very very well, with a 250 grain bullet, and the heavier RCBS Hotchkiss bullets that I cast for it.

The problem with the T7 is that it is inconsistent in moisture. The powder's hygroscopic properties are pronounced here in WV where I hunt. I have had too much trouble with moisture and consistency with the T7, so I no longer use it.

I like to shoot long range with my Knight rifle, and T7 is just not consistent enough to shoot long range with. Short range it is OK, but not long range. Tom.

Thanks guys, It is on sale at wal mart right now, so i think i will grab some... I clean after everyshot anyways, because i am a hunter, not a bench shooter...So the most important shots my guns fire will always be on a clean barrel, so to simulate that, i clean after every shot...

Again thanks

Bruce,

Paying $8 to $10 more for 10 oz. of BH-209 will stop some from buying it. Western powders packages BH-209 at 10 oz. for a reason....profitability. If Western powders had a "competing powder" with equal properties I think they would increase the volume packaged in each container real quick.

Prices this past year on BH-209 ranged from Midsouth Shooters supply at $26.00 to Cabelas $29.99 on sale at their retail outlets to Bass Pro standard retail outlet price of $39.99.

The real price crime is what we "PAY for saboted bullets 15 to 30 bullets at a time. The sabots that are packaged with our bullets are pennies per sabot.

Welcome to America...its called Capitalism.

I think it is now "socialistic capitalism"...

Doc, when the T7 is all shot up, the BH209 will replace it, believe me!

Only BH-209 for me! The crud ring was just too much PIA for me.

t7 is 10times more likely to draw moisture then pyrodex, thats enough to make me stop useing it. plus i was getting a bad crud ring.

blackhorn 209 may cost alittle more, but its hotter so i went down to 80gns . i was shooting 100. if you try BH ,you will like it.
