I checked every vendor I could find for 50gr Hornady Vmax moly ammo for my .222 and every one of them is out of stock. Has this ammo been discontinued or what? Thanks.

You might check their website, but I think it was discontinued...moly quit providing the sales figures a couple years back...

I called Hornady and sure enough, the 50gr moly coated Vmax ammo for 222 has been discontinued. They still sell 40gr Vmax for a 222 but not moly coated.

Jamie,

That's really all it takes to moly coat a bullet?

Thats it.
I only moly 100-.224's or 50 larger caliber bullets at a time.
If I was molying more then I'd have a dedicated tumbler bowl.
I throw the jar in the tubler for 1 hour and then take the bullets out and roll them back and forth in a towl to polish them.

Aint that some $hit. I thought it was a lot more trouble than that. I will have to try some sometime.

Jamie, please note the smile - I'm all for anyone using (and expressing) what they prefer. I have a deep-seated resentment toward moly stemming from when Winchester threw in with Nosler and they only offered component Failsafes with moly on them. I didn't want to have to go to the expense of reworking loads that had been developed with the Lubalox FSs. Glad that you like the moly, but I don't. Best, John

I been looking high and low for Hornady 50grain V-MAX moly bullets for our .222 caliber rifles. I have not found anything in tghe 50 grain, only the 40 grain which certainly does not shoot as tight of groups out of our rifles.

My CZ for instance shot .380 to .450 MOA every day rain or shine. Now these 40 grn moly bullets give me .950-MOA. The wife's rifle is about the same but nothing like they did when we stoked them up with 50 grn Moly bullets by Hornady.

Nope, never smoked a cigarette, lived under communism, or for that matter, had an intimate relationship with a goat either smile , but I have still managed to come to the conclusion that I don't care to experience any of them either. All just my feelings and I don't expect them to be universal. Best, John

Hornady 50 grn V-MAX bullets for our .222 rifles is the only moly bullet I have ever used period. They do shoot very tight groups in our CZ rifles to the tune of less than 1/2 groups at 100 yds. So I sure would like to get my hands on several boxes of those Hornady bullets ASAP.

Lumberjack posted that he called hornady and they've stoped makeing the molyed 50's.
I checked Midway and they don't list the molyed 50's
Cabelas on line shows them still so you could try ordering some there.

Jamie I have been trying to order bullets in various calibers from Cabela's since Dec. and they are back-order. I suppose I am going to have to just get to the reloading bench and start from scratch in workding up loads for our .222 CZ rifles. I only purchased the Hornady ammo because both these rifles shot so well with it at the bench.

Now that I have the new Hornady Lock N Load reloader, it won't be a hazzle to just run off several hundred rounds in a hurry. It's getting to be a pain just trying to purchase reloading components in larger quantities too.
